CACTUS LEATHER CUSTOM

I first sketched this bag years ago. It was a simple idea, really. A professional, C-suite-appropriate bag that was as compact as possible. My secret goal? I wanted it slim enough to slip under your rain jacket if a sudden Amsterdam storm appeared.

I worked with Jonathan Krehwinkel of Studio JK to take my sketches into manufacturing. Sourcing materials was a challenge. I spec’d cactus leather for the bag - wanting the premium look of leather, but without the plastic feel that so many other vegan options offer. However, as an untested, brand new material, we spent nearly a year in durability testing.

The iterative design process was inspiring. I carried each prototype daily, putting them through the wringer and identifying any weak points or design opportunities.

The result? After 6 prototypes and nearly two years of development, the bag is perfect. I carry mine every day, and I’m exceedingly proud when I offer it as a gift to clients or friends.
